Will my student be able to play all the instruments during the instrument exploration?

The instrument exploration class is designed to have your student play all 6 major instruments offered in most 5th grade band/orchestra classes. This includes: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, and Violin.

Can we try out another instrument not listed (e.g. cello, tenor sax, french horn)?

Instruments that are not generally offered in 5th grade will not be available for trial. If you'd like to set up a trial of any of the instruments not generally offered in 5th grade, please speak to an associate.

We've attended your instrument exploration class, but my student is still unsure of what to play.

That's totally normal! There are a few ways to approach this. You can attend another class for $25 for another chance to play each instrument. If you've narrowed it down, then you can speak to an associate to set up a private trial for the instruments your student is interested in ($20 per instrument). If your student has more or less decided on one, but they are still unsure if that's what they will stick to, you may want to just rent the one they're most interested in. There is no cost for instrument exchanges when you rent with us!

Which instrument is the hardest/easiest to play?

The hardest instrument to play is the instrument that the student does not want to practice. This is also to say that the easiest instrument is the one that the student feels most excited about because they will be more likely to then practice the instrument more.

Is it safe to try out the instruments?

Bertrand's Music uses our hospital grade UVC treatment on the instruments before each class. In addition we will supply each participant with their own individual mouthpiece for each instrument.

How many participants are allowed in each class?

The Max amount of participants will be 5. This gives us the opportunity to allow each participant to try the instruments.

My student chose their instrument, what ensemble do they sign up for?

If they chose a wind instrument, then they will be signing up for band. If they chose the violin, then they will be signing up for orchestra.

Are there classes we can attend?

Yes, we have lessons for all instruments. Some of our locations will also offer Head Start Group lessons that will help you get a "head start" on your first year of school band or orchestra.

What if I can't find a class time that works for my schedule?

If you are unable to attend our Instrument Exploration Class you can schedule a 1 on 1 session with one of our friendly staff members. The cost is $20 per instrument and you must schedule with your local store location.

How long are the classes?

Each class will run between 45-60 minutes. Please make sure you arrive promptly at the start of the class.
